Skipton drivers urged to submit footage of dangerous driving

North Yorkshire Police is asking residents to take part in 'Operation Snap.'

Motorists in Skipton are being urged to submit dashcam footage of dangerous or careless driving to police.

North Yorkshire Police is reminding residents about Operation Snap, which allows members of the public to submit footage of suspected driving offences captured on dashcams, CCTV or mobile phones.

Offences can include dangerous or careless driving, using a mobile phone behind the wheel, failing to stop at a red light, ignoring road signs and crossing solid white lines.

Footage submitted through the scheme is reviewed by specially trained staff.

Where appropriate, drivers could receive education, a fixed penalty or penalty points, or be summoned to court.

Police said footage must be submitted within 10 days of the incident and the vehicle registration must be clearly visible.

The original footage should also include two minutes before and two minutes after the alleged offence.

North Yorkshire Police said Operation Snap is designed to help make roads across the county safer by allowing members of the public to report incidents they witness while going about their normal day.
