Craven College students beat national average in GCSE results

All smiles: Craven College pupils after collecting their GCSE results.

Craven College students are celebrating after GCSE achievement rates in maths and English exceeded the national average.

A total of 425 students sat GCSE maths this summer, with the college recording an achievement rate of 84.3 per cent – 4.1 percentage points above the national average.

A further 369 students sat GCSE English, where the achievement rate currently stands at 84.2 per cent, 3.8 percentage points above the national average.

The college has also reported that more than 70 of its Level 2 courses achieved a 100 per cent achievement rate.

Students collected their results this week following the culmination of their studies at the college.

Anita Lall, Principal and CEO of Craven College, said:

“We are immensely proud of all our GCSE and Level 2 students. Their dedication, resilience and hard work throughout their studies have been rewarded with some fantastic results, and they should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

She added:

“These qualifications provide an important foundation for the future, helping students progress to further study, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

“As enrolment for September 2026 opens today, we would be delighted to welcome anyone who has received their results and is still considering their next steps. Our team is on hand to offer guidance, discuss the options available and help students find the right course to support their ambitions.”

Adult learners who returned to education were also among those celebrating.

Jayne Teal achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE maths after returning to study to help progress her career.

She said:

“I have really enjoyed my course - I'm proud that I haven't given up and achieved a qualification which has helped me progress in my career.”

Wendy Newall, Head of Department for English and Maths, said:

“A huge congratulations to all our adult learners who have returned to education to gain their maths and English GCSEs.

"Their dedication and hard work have paid off, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.

“Maths and English are valuable life and workplace skills that can support future career opportunities and personal development.

"From today, adult learners can enrol at our Aireville Campus and speak with our team about the range of learning opportunities available.”

Craven College is now enrolling for courses starting in September, including Further Education courses from Entry Level to Level 3, T Levels, apprenticeships and Higher Education.
