New vintage clothing shop set to open in Skipton

Sheep Street, Skipton.

A new independent clothing shop specialising in vintage and premium pre-loved fashion is set to open in Skipton later this year.

Skipton Vintage Supply is planning to open its doors at 34 Sheep Street in mid-September, offering a range of vintage clothing, branded casual wear and accessories for adults and children.

The business will focus on carefully selected pre-loved and vintage items, including brands such as Carhartt, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Adidas, Levi's and The North Face, alongside genuine vintage clothing dating from the 1960s through to the early 2000s.

Owner, Ed Harrison, who has lived in Skipton for several years, said the idea came from recognising a gap in the town's retail offering.

He said:

"The idea behind the business came from something I felt Skipton was missing.

"We have a fantastic high street and a thriving independent shopping scene, but if you're a man looking for a decent pair of jeans, shorts, shirt or jacket, there are very few options beyond Next, Sports Direct or the supermarkets.

"Likewise, if parents want good-quality branded clothing for their children without paying full retail prices, they're often forced to shop online or travel to Leeds, Bradford or beyond."

The shop will stock a mixture of vintage fashion, modern branded clothing and accessories, with new stock arriving each week.

Among its more unusual features will be the 'Yorkshire Tee Machine' a restored capsule machine where customers can purchase a token to receive a mystery T-shirt.

Some capsules will contain vintage or branded clothing, while others will include prizes such as vouchers and discounts.

Speaking about the concept, the owner said:

"It's designed to bring a bit of fun to the shopping experience and hopefully become something people associate with visiting Skipton Vintage Supply."

He added:

"Families are continuing to feel the impact of the cost of living, but that doesn't mean people should have to compromise on quality or style.

"At the same time, more people are recognising the value of the circular economy, extending the life of good clothing rather than sending it to landfill.

"Buying pre-loved isn't just good for the environment it's often the smartest way to buy better brands for less money."

Alongside the physical shop, Skipton Vintage Supply will also sell products through online marketplaces and live shopping streams.

Recruitment for new staff is expected to begin in early September ahead of the planned opening later that month.
