Officers from the Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team arrested the suspect yesterday (7th July) after investigating a number of reported thefts from businesses in Skipton town centre.
Police say the individual is suspected of carrying out five separate shop thefts in the space of just seven days.
The arrest was made by PC Sampson, with support from PC Leverton and Sergeant Tariq, following enquiries into the incidents.
North Yorkshire Police has confirmed the suspect has since been remanded in custody and is due to appear before the court.
In a statement shared on social media, the Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
"Retail crime is not a victimless offence. Shop theft has a significant impact on local businesses, their staff, and the wider community."
The force added that officers remain committed to identifying offenders, bringing them before the courts and supporting retailers affected by crime.
Police also thanked businesses and members of the public who continue to report offences and provide information to assist investigations.
Anyone with information about crime in Skipton is encouraged to report it to North Yorkshire Police.
