New Skipton arts studio to launch first exhibition featuring local artists

Zöe Louise Platt will exhibit Am I Still a Tourist?, a screen-printed artist's book developed during a residency in Valencia, Spain, in October.

A new arts space in Skipton is preparing to open its first exhibition, showcasing work by local artists and students from Craven College.

Short & Few Studio will host Perspectives on Place on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November at Crescent House on Keighley Road.

The free exhibition will coincide with the winter edition of North Yorkshire Open Studios and feature printmaking, photography, collage and graphic art.

The exhibition brings together established artists Matthew Magnus and Zöe Louise Platt alongside emerging artists from Craven College.

Matthew Magnus will present Folded Ecologies, an ongoing project exploring landscapes and materials through printmaking, photography and laser-cut pieces.

His work focuses on experimentation, allowing different materials and creative processes to influence the finished pieces.

Zöe Louise Platt will exhibit Am I Still a Tourist?, a screen-printed artist's book developed during a residency in Valencia, Spain, in October.

The project explores travel, everyday routines and how unfamiliar places gradually become more familiar.

Students from Craven College will also display work developed through a collaboration with Short & Few Studio, giving them experience of exhibiting alongside professional artists.

The exhibition marks the official launch of Short & Few Studio, an artist-led space founded by Zöe Louise Platt to bring together artists, communities and creative organisations.

The studio aims to provide opportunities for exhibitions, workshops, learning and collaborative projects.

Zöe said:

"Opening our first exhibition is a very exciting thing for Short & Few.

"We want to create a space where people can come together through art, whether that's to make their own work, learn something new, share ideas or experience an exhibition.

"It's been really fun working with Craven College.

"Giving students the opportunity to develop and exhibit their work alongside practising artists is exactly the kind of creative exchange we want to encourage. We're looking forward to welcoming more of the local community into the space."

Perspectives on Place will be open to visitors on 7 and 8 November at Crescent House, Keighley Road, Skipton, with free admission.
