Late-night shopping is returning to Skipton for the first time in several years, with more than 40 businesses taking part in a special festive event.
Skipton Business Improvement District (BID) has announced that shops, pubs, bars and restaurants across the town centre will stay open until 8pm on Thursday 26 November.
The event follows a survey of local businesses earlier this year, which showed support for bringing back late-night shopping in the run-up to Christmas.
More than 40 businesses have committed to taking part, with some planning special offers and activities for shoppers.
Skipton BID will also fund live music, buskers and other entertainment throughout the evening to create a festive atmosphere in the town centre.
Sarah Howsen, Skipton BID Manager, said:
“We’re delighted to be reintroducing late-night shopping to Skipton, and it’s fantastic to see such a top response from our businesses.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase everything Skipton has to offer, from our blend of independent retailers and national chains to the unique atmosphere that makes the town such a popular destination.
“As well as all the retailers, we’ve got pubs, bars and restaurants on board – so if you’ve worked up an appetite shopping why not grab a drink and a bite to eat?
“We’re looking forward to a wonderful evening that benefits both businesses and shoppers as we head into the festive season."
Free parking will be available at the Town Hall Car Park from 5pm on the day, while maps and leaflets will help visitors find participating businesses around the town centre.
The event has also received funding from Visit North Yorkshire and North Yorkshire Council to support its organisation and delivery.
Sarah added:
“We’re very grateful to both Visit North Yorkshire and North Yorkshire Council for supporting the late-night shopping with this funding, which will help to boost the evening for the town.”
Skipton BID hopes the event will encourage residents and visitors to explore the town's shops and hospitality venues while supporting local businesses ahead of Christmas.
