Skipton’s Woolly Sheep Trail shortlisted for national award

Organised by Skipton BID in partnership with Spinning Jenny, the Woolly Sheep Trail saw handmade sheep displayed around the town throughout the summer.

Skipton BID has been named as a finalist in the National BID Awards 2027 following the success of the town’s first Woolly Sheep Trail.

The project has reached the final of the Community Project category, recognising the impact of the trail which took place across Skipton earlier this year.

Organised by Skipton BID in partnership with Spinning Jenny, the Woolly Sheep Trail saw handmade sheep displayed around the town throughout the summer.

Skipton BID said:

“We are super proud to have been named as finalists in these prestigious awards for the first time.

“It’s an amazing achievement for us and everyone that worked so hard to support the delivery of the Woolly Sheep Trail this year.

"It was a top achievement, so we’re absolutely delighted to receive this recognition for it.

“The feedback we received on the trail was highly positive and we’re thrilled that another BID project was a success in supporting our businesses.

“We can’t wait to attend the national finals next year. Wish us luck!”

Following funding from the BID and more than 800 hours of volunteer work from representatives from Spinning Jenny in Skipton, the Woolly Sheep Trail was launched over the summer to encourage people into the town centre.

More than 700 people completed the trail – which guided visitors into different areas of town with the aim of increasing footfall and spend for the local business community.

Figures collected by the BID show that people travelled from across the country to take part in the trail, with some even from overseas from the likes of the Netherlands and Ireland.

The BID team will now attend the National BID Awards finals in London in February 2027 when the results of the competition will be revealed.

A spokesperson for the National BID Awards said:

“Being named a finalist is a fantastic achievement and a recognition of hard work, dedication and contribution to the BID community.”
