The Coniston Hotel and Spa will remain under family ownership after plans to sell the business were withdrawn.
The Bannister family has confirmed that following an internal restructuring, the hotel and estate near Skipton will continue to be run by the family, with the next generation stepping into leadership.
Roddy Bannister will take over the running of the hotel as managing director, becoming the third generation of the family to lead the business.
He succeeds his father, Nick Bannister, and grandfather, Michael Bannister.
Nick Bannister, who has overseen the estate for the past 11 years, will step back from the day-to-day leadership of the hotel but will continue to manage the wider estate.
He said the decision to keep the business within the family followed careful consideration.
“The Coniston has always been far more than a business to us; its a place filled with memories, shaped by generations of family.”
Roddy Bannister commented on the new position saying:
“This place is my home in every sense.
“There is no doubt that we face a challenging road ahead, but we are energised, focused and determined to return Coniston to its rightful place as a leading Yorkshire estate hospitality destination”.
He added that he was grateful for the support of his family as he takes on the role.
The hotel, located in Coniston Cold, has been owned by the Bannister family since 1969.
Set within around 1,000 acres of countryside in the Yorkshire Dales, it has developed from a small farm shop in the late 1980s into a large hotel and spa complex.
The property had around 40 bedrooms in 1998 before being expanded in 2011 with additional rooms and the Lake View Restaurant.
A spa was later added in 2015 and was redeveloped in 2021 as the Nadarra Spa.
The family said the hotel will continue to focus on its identity as a working Yorkshire estate, with an emphasis on seasonal food, hospitality and outdoor experiences connected to the surrounding landscape.
Further details about future plans for the estate are expected to be announced at a later date.
