A man has been remanded in custody after allegedly trying to dispose of stolen goods in a rubbish bin while being watched by police in Skipton.
The man, who is in his 50s, was arrested following an alleged shoplifting incident at Boots Pharmacy on Skipton High Street on Tuesday (4th August).
North Yorkshire Police said the suspect is accused of stealing around £100 worth of cosmetic products from the store.
Officers responded quickly and located the suspect on the High Street.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:
"While keeping the male under observation, officers witnessed him attempting to bin the evidence by disposing of the stolen goods in a nearby rubbish bin.
"Unfortunately for him, our officers weren't about to throw this investigation away."
The man has since been remanded in custody and is due to appear before magistrates at the next available court hearing.
North Yorkshire Police praised the work of the Band 4 Craven Response Team, describing it as "another great result" for officers.
