North Yorkshire Police's Craven Facebook page have posted a safety guide for those lighting fireworks at home this bonfire night (tonight).
In the post, North Yorkshire Police advised:
- Plan a display to make it safer and more enjoyable
- Only buy fireworks that carry the CE mark, keep them in a closed box, and use them one at a time
- Read and follow the instructions on each firework
- Light the firework at arm's length, with a taper, and stand well back
- Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks
- Never return to a firework once it has been lit
- Don’t put fireworks in pockets and never throw them
- Direct any fireworks well away from spectators
- Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to children under the age of 5
- Make sure to wear gloves if you’re handling sparklers
They commented saying,
'North Yorkshire police would like to say stay safe and enjoy the time with friends and family.
If you have any concerns regarding people using fireworks in a way that causes themselves or others any danger then do not participate yourself.'
For any concerns regarding firework safety or incidents please don't hesitate to call the emergency services if required.
