More than 800 people have helped raise over £80,000 for Sue Ryder by taking part in the charity’s Starlight Hike in the Worth Valley.
Participants completed either a 5km or 10km route in memory of loved ones, raising money to support Sue Ryder’s work with people experiencing dying and grief. Among those taking part was Kevan Carling, from Cross Roads, who completed the event in memory of his wife Kat. Kevan was determined to participate despite breaking his leg in seven places just months before the hike. He said: “The day itself was a mixture of emotions. “The word ‘wow’ got used quite a lot. "It felt like everyone was rooting for everyone else, and the experience was quite humbling. “The amount of comments we received for taking part, dressing up, was just extraordinary. "It seemed like one big happy family, all working towards a common goal.” Organisers thanked everyone who walked, volunteered and supported the event, which was sponsored by Stirk Lambert & Co and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. The money raised will help Sue Ryder continue providing care and support to people facing death or grief.
