Repair Cafés are returning to Skipton this winter, giving residents the chance to get broken or damaged items fixed for free while enjoying a friendly, community atmosphere.
The next three Repair Cafés will take place on Saturday 31 January, 28 February and 28 March, all running from 10am–1pm at St Andrew’s Church Hall, Newmarket Street.
Visitors are invited to bring along a wide range of items for repair, including eyeglasses, bicycles, blade sharpening, jewellery, textiles, knitwear, small electrical appliances and mechanical items. Skilled volunteer repairers will be on hand to help diagnose and fix problems, keeping items in use for longer and out of landfill.
Repair Cafés have already proven hugely successful in Skipton. Across six events last year, volunteers helped repair an impressive 419 items, saving money for residents and reducing waste. That’s the equivalent of flying 39384 miles, driving 26823 miles, or showering 4037 times!
One visitor described the experience as having a “lovely atmosphere, skilled repair – thank you!”
Alongside repairs, visitors can relax with a cuppa or a slice of cake, and there will also be the opportunity to refill household products from Miniml, making it easy to reduce single-use plastic at the same time.
Repair Cafés are free to attend, with donations welcome to help keep the events running. Everyone is welcome whether you have something that needs fixing, want to learn more about repairs, or simply fancy popping in for a chat.
