Prime Minister Andy Burnham has met a Keighley table tennis coach ahead of the launch of new sessions aimed at supporting people living with Parkinson's.

Burnham visited Keighley earlier this week, where he was pictured alongside Steve Rowe from Keighley Table Tennis Centre.

The centre has announced plans to launch regular Tuesday sessions for people living with Parkinson's and their carers, helping participants improve their movement, balance, coordination and confidence.

The sessions, named 'PingPongParkinson', will be led by Steve, a professional coach and player with more than 47 years of experience.

He believes table tennis can help people manage some of the symptoms associated with Parkinson's, while also providing opportunities for friendship and social interaction.

Steve said:

“The sessions are designed irrespective of whether you are an early diagnoses or existing Parkinson sufferer.

“We include warm-ups, fun bat-and-ball activities and plenty of time at the table.

“Everything is delivered in a friendly, supportive and enjoyable way. No previous table tennis experience is needed, and carers are very welcome to come along and join in.”

The sessions will be suitable for people at different stages of Parkinson's, with activities adapted to participants' abilities.

Earlier this month (Oct. 10, 2026) at the PingPongParkinson event in Makerfield, the project received the highest accolade from the Prime Minister.

In his closing remarks at the event, Andy Burnham gave a direct shoutout to the project, stating:

"And PingPongParkinson, I think is amazing."

Keighley Table Tennis Centre hopes the initiative will provide a welcoming environment where people can stay active, build confidence and enjoy the social benefits of sport.
