Veterans, colleagues, patients and volunteers have gathered for a Remembrance Service in the Chapel at Airedale Hospital this week.
The service on Monday (11th November) included a 2-minute silence and laying of wreaths, along with readings of poetry and prayers from the chaplains.
Lead Chaplain Liz Maitland said:
“It’s really important we give patients at the hospital the opportunity to attend a service because they are in a hospital and may have really wanted to be at a Cenotaph this weekend.
“Also for our colleagues who are serving or who have served, those veterans who want to be able to pause at an important time.
“We’re also really keen to be inclusive as a Trust and we’ve made it a multi-faith service, so everyone who comes can find something to connect with and find meaning.”
“It’s just so important that we don’t forget and that we continue to honour and remember those who have died in conflicts across the years.”
Also attending the event was Angela Monaghan, Deputy Lieutenant for the West Yorkshire Lieutenancy, Angela said:
“We have a commitment to support as many of the Remembrance Services as we can across the whole of the West Yorkshire District.
“We think it’s really important that the Lieutenancy is recognising the service of those who have served our country, and it’s really important that we don’t forget.”
“Airedale is my local hospital so I’m glad to be here personally too.”
