Skipton BID has announced that its fully funded Street Marshals will return to support welfare in the town over the busy festive period.
Two trained professionals will patrol Skipton town centre on five different dates during the Christmas and New Year period.
The aim is to provide welfare and safety to Skipton’s evening and late-night community over the one of the busiest times of the year while emphasising responsible enjoyment.
Sarah Howsen, Skipton BID Manager, said:
“We are delighted to once again fully fund the Street Marshals to return to Skipton for the third year in a row.
“The festive period is such an important time of the year for Skipton’s night-time economy, so we want to continue to do as much as we can to support our business community.
“The Street Marshals will be out and about at key times of the day to support with welfare and improve overall safety in the town centre.
“We want everyone to enjoy their Christmas and New Year’s celebrations in Skipton – so let’s work together to remain a safe and welcoming destination!”
The Street Marshal patrols will begin in Skipton this Friday - commonly known as 'Mad Friday' and renowned as one of the busiest days of the year for pubs and bars in the town - and will continue over both Christmas and New Year.
Both Marshals will be fully Security Industry Authority (SIA) trained and will provide extra reassurance for both local people and visitors over Christmas and New Year.
They will offer guidance, advice and assistance to patrons of the late-night community in the North Yorkshire town – alongside working with different hospitality venues to offer any support with welfare and safety.
North Yorkshire Police is in full support of the BID funding for the Street Marshals in Skipton.
Inspector Paul Crabtree, of North Yorkshire Police, said:
“It’s great to see organisations like the BID supporting Skipton with positive initiatives at such a key time of the year.
“Our police officers will work alongside the Street Marshals to keep people safe as we expect an increase in nightlife activity.
“The festive season is a time for celebration, but we’re asking everyone to enjoy it responsibly and look out for each other.”
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Pubwatch scheme in Skipton said the town’s community needs to work together to ensure a welcoming environment for all.
They said:
“Christmas is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year for pubs and bars in Skipton – and we want everyone to celebrate and have a great time.
“Our venues are well-prepared and we are delighted to receive support from the BID through schemes such as the Street Marshals.
“Let’s all come together to make sure this festive season is one to remember for the right reasons!”
