New guided walking tours launched in Skipton

A new guided walking tour is giving visitors and local residents the chance to discover more about Skipton, from its historic castle and famous market to the town’s canal and hidden stories.

The Skipton tour has been launched by Hike Yorkshire, a Yorkshire Dales-based outdoor adventure company which runs guided walking tours designed to combine walking with local history, culture and the natural environment.

The one-hour Skipton tour costs from £15 per person and takes walkers through some of the town's best-known landmarks and historic areas.

The route includes the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Skipton Castle and the market, giving participants the opportunity to see familiar parts of the town from a different perspective.

Hike Yorkshire says its tours are designed to bring towns and villages to life by combining outdoor adventure with stories about their history and heritage.

The Skipton tours will be run by Andy who has a degree in archaeology from UCL, an MA in the historic built environment from the University of York, and he is a qualified teacher.

Andy has worked on archaeological sites all over Britain, Spain and Romania.

He has designed and run numerous archaeological digs for schools, and is an experienced walking tour guide in London and Yorkshire.

The company describes its guides as highly trained in navigation and first aid, with knowledge covering areas including local history and geology.

For those wanting to explore further afield, the company also offers tailored hikes for groups, with routes and difficulty levels adapted to the needs of participants.
