Singer-songwriter Sam Clegg has released a festive video alongside his charity single, The Present, with all proceeds going to two charities supporting older people across the UK.
Inspired by the emotional Christmas adverts made famous by John Lewis, the video encourages people to reach out to elderly relatives, friends and neighbours who may be spending Christmas alone.
The story follows a young girl who receives a teddy bear from her parents for Christmas and after her parents pass away her memories of them stay with her, with the comfort of her teddy bear.
Despite her loneliness, she donates her teddy bear to a charity shop to gift someone else comfort.
The charity advert features Sam's song 'The Present'.
Sam created the project independently with a budget of £100, taking on the roles of singer, songwriter, music producer, scriptwriter, director, videographer and editor.
The advert features Myley Kearton, Hayley Kearton, Ashley Kearton and Irene Fowler, with its final scene filmed at the Sue Ryder charity shop in Haworth.
Sam said:
“We never outgrow the need to be loved.
"For many older people, Christmas is the loneliest time of year.
“If someone in your life might be on their own this Christmas, reach out, while they’re still here.”
The single is available to download for less than £1, with proceeds supporting Re-engage and Friends of the Elderly, two charities working to tackle loneliness among older people.
Sam hopes the song will also make an impact in the music charts, with each download counting towards the Official Charts.
He is encouraging people to download the song, share the video and, most importantly, make time to contact someone who may be feeling isolated this Christmas.
Sam added:
“I have no record label, no management and no team.
"This is a completely solo project, and I really need your help to spread the message.”
The single The Present is available at samclegg.com/thepresent, while the Christmas advert can be watched on Sam Clegg's YouTube channel.
