Jumble sale to be held in aid of woman's cancer journey

Joanna James.

This June, a jumble sale will be held in aid of Joanna's Journey.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support a woman undergoing treatment for an aggressive brain tumour diagnosis.

Joanna James has shared her story as part of “Joanna’s Journey”, a fundraising appeal created to help cover the cost of specialist treatment in Germany.

Joanna was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma, a fast-growing brain tumour, after becoming seriously unwell while on holiday in Greece last year.

Since then, she has undergone awake brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

She explained that, while she continues chemotherapy treatment, no further options are currently available to her through the NHS beyond standard care.

Following medical consultations and research, she is due to begin immunotherapy treatment at a specialist clinic in Cologne, Germany.

The treatment aims to stimulate the immune system to recognise and target tumour cells.

The overall cost of the programme, including treatment and travel expenses, is estimated to be around £100,000.

In a statement shared as part of the appeal, Joanna said:

“I have faced each stage with determination and strength because I am not ready to stop fighting for my life.”

She added:

“It is not a cure, but it offers hope of more time and hope of preserving my quality of life.”

The campaign is operating in partnership with Brainstrust, a charity that supports people diagnosed with brain tumours across the UK.

The jumble sale will take place on Saturday, 7th June in Addingham Memorial Hall from 10am to 1pm.

The organisation is providing fundraising and administrative support for the appeal.

According to the Brain's Trust, any donations made will go towards Joanna’s care, while surplus funds and Gift Aid will help support others facing similar diagnoses.
