Two Skipton secondary schools are holding their first joint Sixth Form open evening this week.
The open evening on Thursday (6th November) will showcase the newly launched Sixth Form collaboration between Ermysted's Grammar School and Skipton Girls' High School and give prospective students and their parents, seeking entry to Sixth Form from September 2026, an opportunity to explore both schools.
EGS and SGHS are accepting applications from local students looking to join the Sixth Form, in addition to the places available to existing students.
As part of a new joint venture launched last month, the two Skipton grammar schools have entered into an expanded partnership, with shared co-educational teaching across both single-sex schools.
Under the new collaboration, around two thirds of A-Level subjects are currently co-delivered, with students accessing several lessons at both schools.
SGHS student Ashalina said:
“Sixth Form has been more than just lessons - it's been about working together, learning from each other and turning challenges into memories we will never forget.”
New EGS student Joe, who joined the Sixth Form in September, said:
“Being new to both environments could have been daunting, but both schools have made the start of Sixth Form such a positive experience. They have opened up more opportunities than I ever could have hoped for.”
The Sixth Form collaboration was launched to widen access and broaden opportunities.
Around 22 A-Level subjects are on offer from one of the strongest providers in the region for adding value in the Sixth Form.

“Our collaboration exemplifies the power of community. It brings together the strengths of both schools, enriching learning, broadening curriculum options and deepening our shared culture of academic excellence.”
Michael Evans, Headteacher at Ermysted’s Grammar School, said:
“Our schools have a history of working together and yet our collaboration offers something unique and attractive to Sixth Form students from both schools.”
George Barrett and Geraldine Townend, Heads of Sixth Form at Ermysted’s and Skipton Girls’ High School respectively, reported that the collaboration had begun very smoothly, with students excited by the opportunity to experience educational opportunities at both schools. They said that the “scope” of the collaboration made this an historic venture.
The joint open evening will take place at Ermysted’s and Skipton Girls’ High School on Thursday 6th November from 6pm to 8pm, with subjects showcased across the two schools and talks from both headteachers.
