Young people in Skipton have been combining creativity and community spirit in the latest “Buzzing Skipton” workshop, which focused on poetry, planting, and storytelling.
The event took place on Monday, November 3rd, at the Amphitheatre behind Skipton Town Hall, where participants from the SELA charity spent the day planting wildflowers and creating poetry inspired by nature. The session aimed to inspire ideas for a new community sculpture while teaching practical skills and encouraging artistic expression. The “Buzzing Skipton” project, delivered by Skipton BID and The Artery, is funded through the Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund from the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire. It is designed to revitalise the town’s high street and enhance green spaces through a series of workshops, installations, and creative projects. Sarah Howsen, Skipton BID Manager, said: “It’s fantastic to now have the Buzzing Skipton project properly underway for the good of our town. "Work has now fully begun on improving the five overlooked areas, carefully selected for their significance. "It was great to see yet another well-attended session. "Each of the workshops held so far have been greatly received and we’re looking forward to delivering more to bring a new lease of life into our town centre.” She added: “Once again we would like to give thanks to the North Yorkshire Mayor’s funding stream, allowing us to continue to work on our mission to develop Skipton’s vibrancy, inclusivity and sustainability.” Skipton BID and The Artery are working with several local organisations including Skipton in Bloom, Craven College, Craven Arts House, and other community groups to deliver the project. Further workshops and community sessions are planned as part of the initiative, and local residents and businesses are encouraged to take part.
