The new shop follows the success of the first shop in Craven Court.
The new shop is located on Keighley Road and is the charity’s first fashion-focused store. It offers a range of new and pre-loved men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. The charity have shared images via Facebook of the new shop: The shop forms part of Yorkshire Cancer Research’s growing retail network, which now includes 16 stores across the region. Mary Walton, Retail Area Manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said the new opening reflects the role that retail plays in supporting cancer research across the county. She said: “I’m passionate about being part of the Retail team at Yorkshire Cancer Research, where every shop plays a vital role in funding ground-breaking cancer research across the region. "Yorkshire is one of the regions hardest hit by cancer, but by shopping, donating and volunteering in the charity’s shops, people in Skipton and beyond can support Yorkshire Cancer Research’s mission to help change that.” The opening of the second shop follows continued support from the Skipton community for the charity’s first store, which opened in Craven Court in 2023. Since opening, the Craven Court shop has raised more than £645,000 to help fund cancer research and services in Yorkshire. Sarah Waterhouse, a volunteer at the Skipton store, said she was motivated to support the charity because of personal experiences. She said: “I remember first stepping into the Yorkshire Cancer Research shop and being impressed by its lovely atmosphere and colourful displays. "I wanted to volunteer to support the charity’s work as many of my family members and friends have experienced cancer. "It now feels great to give back to the community, from serving people on the till to creating appealing shopping displays. "I love being part of the Yorkshire Cancer Research Craven Court shop team and I look forward to every shift.” The charity lead initiatives such as Active Together, which is an exercise-based cancer support service funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and developed by Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre. The service has recently expanded into Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven. The Active Together service in Airedale is led by Skipton resident Nick Bergin, who applied for the role following the death of his sister from breast cancer in 2022. Tony Graham, Director of Retail, Services and Operations at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said the new shop represents continued growth for the charity. He said: “Opening a second store in Skipton is a positive milestone for the charity, made possible by the support of those who live in and visit Skipton. "The charity looks forward to working with both shop teams in the town to raise crucial income for pioneering cancer research, helping the charity move closer to its vision of a Yorkshire free from cancer.” The Yorkshire Cancer Research shop on Keighley Road is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays.
