The fundraising began in November 2024.
Local MP for Skipton and Ripon, Julian Smith visited the store. During the visit, Sir Julian met Store Manager Liam Bonefield, Community Champion Clare Reed, and Marie Curie volunteers Ron and Val Hiley, who are now in their twentieth year of volunteering for the charity. Marie Curie is Morrisons’ national charity partner, with the supermarket chain aiming to raise £15 million by October 2027. More than £4 million has already been raised nationally to support end-of-life care, hospice services and Marie Curie nurses working in communities across the UK. Speaking during the visit, Sir Julian said: “It was fantastic to visit Morrisons Skipton and meet the colleagues and volunteers behind this fantastic achievement. "Raising over £10,000 in just over a year is a remarkable milestone and a testament to the dedication of the staff, the commitment of Marie Curie volunteers, and the generosity of local customers. "My thanks go to everyone involved, your efforts are making a real difference for families who rely on Marie Curie’s vital support.” The fundraising total reflects a range of activities carried out in-store, with contributions from customers and support from volunteers who regularly give their time to Marie Curie. The Morrisons Skipton team says it remains committed to continuing its support for the charity as part of the supermarket’s wider national partnership.
