A Yorkshire Day Celebration

Following on from the success of Yorkshire Day last year, Skipton BID is once again organising an event to celebrate the magnificence of God's Own County!

On Thursday 1st August one and all are invited to come along and take part in the free fun activities taking place on the High Street between 10am and 4pm.

Enjoy some live music from the Flat Cap Band and the fantastic Great Yorkshire Morris will be entertaining us throughout the day. Lots of fun for the children with Yorkshire themed crafting, face painting, Yorkshire quizzes and even a rodeo sheep! Giant games will line the High Street and the football lovers out there can test their skills on the inflatable Football Shoot Out!

There will be an entertaining talk by the Yorkshire Dialect Society taking place in Skipton Library at 10.45. They will entertain you with amusing Yorkshire tales and dialect poems. A great opportunity to see how much you understand of our traditional dialect!

At 11.49 the Town Crier will read the Yorkshire Proclamation. Why 11.49? It is 1149 years since Yorkshire was founded and all Yorkshire Town Criers will be carrying out the proclamation at the same time all around Yorkshire.

There will once again be a small Yorkshire themed market with a selection of the finest crafts, food and drink, all made and sourced in Yorkshire.
Sarah Howsen, BID Manager said:

“Yorkshire Day was a great success last year even though the sun didn’t shine, and we are hoping this year will be a bigger success. There will be a full day of free family entertainment so we hope everyone will come along and celebrate what it is to be from Yorkshire.”

Everything taking place on the day is free of charge. The event is organised by Skipton BID and supported by Skipton Town Council.
