NatWest will be the last bank in town after Halifax announced its branch in Skipton will close in January 2026.
The Halifax branch at 63-65 High Street is set to close its doors in four months' time on 26th January 2026.
The news came as part of 49 branch closures across the UK announced this week by the group behind Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland.
Halifax says the next nearest branch to Skipton will be the one on Low Street in Keighley town centre.
The cash machine on Skipton High Street will also close, with customers instead directed to use the one at NatWest across the road.
The bank also says customers will be able to complete everyday banking tasks at the Post Office on Swadford Street.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group said:
“The way people are banking has changed, with over 21million customers choosing our apps to manage their money.
"We’re providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people.
"Alongside our app, our customers can use any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office or Banking Hubs for their everyday banking, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations."
On its online information about the Skipton branch closure, Halifax says before it closes a branch, it carefully considers and analyses how customers will be affected, including how customers are choosing to bank, how often customers use the branch and how this is changing.
Halifax also says it assesses local transport services, broadband availability and the support available for customers who are vulnerable.
A report shows 367 customers were regularly using the Skipton branch of Halifax - either the counter or the deposit machine - for four months out of six in the period between December 2024 and May 2025. It says most (60%) of these customers were aged over 55. Around a quarter were aged over 75. Just 12% were aged under 34.
Halifax says it is writing to customers to let them know of the branch closure and will also contact the MP for Skipton & Ripon, as well as representatives of the Post Office, Citizens Advice and the local Chamber of Commerce.
