YouTube star Danny Malin is stepping away from online food review series 'Rate My Takeaway' due to health concerns and 'challenges behind the scenes.'
Danny, who built a huge following during the pandemic, said the decision comes after “putting life into perspective” following two strokes 18 months ago.
The channel, which features Malin reviewing takeaway meals from across the UK while chatting with the public, has grown into one of the country’s most popular food review platforms.
Since launching in 2020, Rate My Takeaway has attracted nearly 800,000 subscribers and more than 500 million views.
He has visited a wide range of eateries across Yorkshire during his career, including filming at Bizzie Lizzie's in Skipton earlier this year.
In a statement, Malin said:
“I had two strokes 18 months ago and that put life into perspective.
“My family and friends have been amazing and I’ve been so scared to leave my role as presenter of the channel because it means so much to me but now is the right time to re-establish myself as Danny.
“I’ll be back on the road before we know it.”
He added that while he is leaving Rate My Takeaway, he will continue creating content through his personal platforms.
In a video shared on Mr and Mrs Yorkshire — the YouTube channel Malin runs with his wife Sophie Mei Lan — he explained that difficulties behind the scenes had contributed to his decision.
He said:
“I love food reviewing and chatting to everyone but there’s been challenges behind the scenes that have taken its toll on my health.
“As you know there’s always been me, editor and cameraman in this team and we all get paid the same.
“We are all equal parties in the business except they’ve not allowed me equal access to RMT’s social media or YouTube channel, so I can’t control comments.
“Nor am I in control of the Danny Malin Facebook page.”
Beyond YouTube, Danny Malin has become a familiar face on TV, writes a regular column, hosts live events, and has even released Christmas songs with Sheffield producer Toddla T.
