Appletreewick pub shortlisted in Countryside Alliance ‘Rural Oscars’

The New Inn pub in Appletreewick.

A pub near Skipton has been named a North of England finalist in the Countryside Alliance Awards.

The New Inn in Appletreewick has been shortlisted in the annual awards, which celebrate rural businesses involved in food, farming, enterprise and heritage across the UK.

The awards, now in their 19th year, are often referred to as the “Rural Oscars” and highlight the work of small businesses that contribute to rural communities and local economies.

Skipton and Ripon MP, Julian Smith said reaching the regional finals was an achievement for the business.

“The Countryside Alliance Awards recognise the businesses that go above and beyond and play a vital role in our rural communities.
“Reaching the North of England finals is a great achievement for the New Inn, Appletreewick and reflects the hard work and dedication they show their community.”

The next stage of judging will involve a public vote, with regional winners going on to compete in the national final at the House of Lords in July 2026.

Countryside Alliance Awards Director, Sarah Lee said the awards recognise the people behind rural businesses as well as the services they provide.

“We have been overwhelmed by nominations this year.
“The secret to the Rural Oscars’ popularity is that they honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services.”

She added that the awards aim to recognise those who support rural communities and local economies.

“They exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight,”.

Members of the public can take part in the voting process before regional winners are announced ahead of the national final later this year.
