Three men have been arrested following a vehicle theft incident near Nappa, after residents assisted in locating the stolen van.
North Yorkshire Police reported that a van was stolen from a farm in the area.
Local residents, upon hearing about the theft, helped the victim search for the vehicle.
The suspects are said to have crashed the van near Horton during an attempted getaway.
One man was detained at the scene by residents.
According to police, another suspect took a nearby 4x4 pick-up and drove away.
The vehicle was later recovered and the suspect was arrested, along with a third man, following coordinated work with Lancashire Constabulary.
The three men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated vehicle theft, drug possession, and driving offences.
Inspector Paul Crabtree, of Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:
“While we’d never advise people to put themselves at risk, the courage of these residents has ensured three suspects are now in the cells.
"It speaks volumes about the community spirit in rural Craven and we’re grateful to everyone who works with us to keep our rural areas, villages and towns safe.”
Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
