Police patrol areas in Craven following quad bike thefts

North Yorkshire Police have been visiting Craven's more remote communities and talking to residents as part of their response to quad bike thefts.

Yeesterday patrols took place in West and East Marton, Lothersdale, Elslack, Bank Newton, Otterburn, Bell Busk, Gargrave and other areas.

The patrols follows multiple reports of thefts, some during daylight hours and some at night - and these high-visibility patrols aim to disrupt criminals who travel around the area during the day looking for items to steal later.

They are also carrying out marked and unmarked patrols throughout the night, targeting key routes they know criminals use.

These patrols has resulted in several stolen quad bikes being recovered.

The Craven team have released some quick quad-bike security tips:

"The building your quad is stored in is the first line of defence. So it’s worth investing in good building security, including strong locks, lighting and CCTV.

"Immobilisers are a great preventative measure, and fitting a quad bike tracker helps us recover vehicles quickly if the worst happens. An increasing number of farms are using these, and they are very effective. They’ve helped us reunite a number of owners with their stolen quads.

"When we recover quads, it’s always useful if we know specific details, such as the serial number and any identifying marks or features. So take a quick photo of these and store it somewhere safe."
