Sir Julian Smith MP has called for greater security at Skipton's bus station.
Sir Julian Smith MP has called on North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Council to provide a greater police presence, and install permanent CCTV, at Skipton Bus Station following recent concerning incidents.
Julian’s calls follow an assault on Friday evening (20th March 2026) in relation to which the police have since made an arrest.
He has has been in touch with the authorities on this issue for several months.
Commenting on this, Julian said:
“Enough is enough.
"I have been pushing for months for better CCTV and we now need this sorted and in place.
"I have also spoken to the Police, North Yorkshire Council and others today and will visit the bus station this week.
"I understand the police have increased their presence this week and I have encouraged them to have a greater and more regular presence, but we also need a long-term solution and CCTV has to be at the heart of that.”
Julian will be visiting the Bus Station and meeting and speaking with relevant stakeholders this week.
