In its fourth year of the now annual tradition, Airedale Hospital and Community Charity delivered books to five local schools.
The charity’s ‘Acts of Kindness’ (AOK) campaign aims to spread kindness and positivity at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and in the local community.
The charity took the opportunity on World Book Day to give back to local young people by surprising both teachers and students with an act of kindness.
The charity team visited the following schools, presenting each with a hamper of health-related books specifically written for children.
- Cowling Community Primary School
- Haworth Primary School
- St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School
- Wharfedale Montessori School
- Skipton Parish Primary School
The books included topics on looking after your health and wellbeing, what it is like inside a hospital, how the body works, understanding feelings and diversity.
Laura Turner, Communications and Charity Assistant said:
“We’re delighted to take our AOK campaign back out on the road again.
"Connecting with local schools and young people is a vital part of what we do so being able to give back in this way is really special.
She added,
“Books can be an incredible distraction tool at home and school particularly for children who might be unwell, undergoing tests and scans or who may need a bit of reassurance for when they’re coming to hospital as it can be quite scary.
We have now visited 20 local schools across four World Book Days and it’s always fantastic to meet the children and see them dressed up as their favourite characters.
It’s become the highlight of our year!”
Veronique Robinson, Wharfedale Montessori School Secretary said:
“It's been such a lovely way to celebrate World Book Day and the greater community spirit of North Yorkshire, thank you again for the super books which will be enjoyed and cherished by our pupils.”
