Skipton and Ripon MP Sir Julian Smith has visited Bizzie Lizzie's in Skipton to hear about the challenges currently facing businesses in the hospitality sector.
During the visit to the family-run fish and chip restaurant at High Street Car Park, Sir Julian met with owner Allan Davison to discuss a range of issues affecting the industry, including rising operating costs, recruitment pressures and concerns over VAT rates for hospitality businesses. The visit followed correspondence from Bizzie Lizzie's Director, Katie Davison, who wrote to the MP outlining the financial pressures facing the sector and calling for further support. Sir Julian said he had since raised those concerns with Treasury ministers. Speaking after the visit, Sir Julian Smith said: "It was great to visit Bizzie Lizzie's and meet Allan to talk about the challenges facing hospitality businesses in our area. "As a long-established local business, Bizzie Lizzie's plays an important role in our community, providing jobs and attracting visitors to Skipton. "I appreciated the opportunity to hear about the pressures the business is facing, including rising costs and concerns around VAT. "I will continue to raise these issues in Westminster and make the case for policies that help businesses like Bizzie Lizzie's thrive." Bizzie Lizzie's has been a familiar name in Skipton for many years, serving residents and visitors alike from its restaurant and takeaway in the town centre. The meeting forms part of Sir Julian's ongoing engagement with businesses and organisations across the Skipton and Ripon constituency to discuss local issues and hear directly about the challenges they face.
