Skipton Golf Club has been selected as a pilot club for a new England Golf initiative designed to encourage more women under the age of 50 to take up golf.
The club has been chosen to take part in the scheme, which aims to make the sport more accessible by tackling some of the barriers that can prevent women from getting involved.
The initiative will focus on offering greater flexibility, including more suitable playing times, access to equipment, tuition and support from experienced members to help build confidence on the course.
Jenny Davies, Vice Captain of the Women's Section at Skipton Golf Club, said:
"We're delighted to have been approached by England Golf to become a pilot club for this initiative.
"We know women under 50 often have many demands on their time and finances, and there can still be outdated perceptions about golf.
"We want to help break down those barriers by being more flexible in our approach.
"That includes providing equipment, tuition and opportunities for women to play with others so they can build confidence and enjoy the game."
The club says it also wants to highlight the wider benefits of golf, including spending time outdoors, improving physical and mental wellbeing, making new friendships and enjoying a sociable activity.
Jenny added:
"Our working group is really keen to promote the aspects of golf that we love – the fresh air, exercise, health benefits, making friendships and having lots of laughs.
"Women's golf is reaching a much wider audience thanks to some fantastic British players, and who knows maybe Skipton has the next Charley Hull."
