Skipton football coach completes 100km running challenge following son's Diabetes diagnosis

Lee with his team.

Lee Loynes, who manages the Under-8s Scorpions and Cobras teams at Skipton Juniors.

He took on the challenge throughout February in support of Breakthrough T1D.

So far, £650 has been raised, with further donations still coming in.

The final kilometre of the challenge was completed alongside several players from the team, as well as the coach’s two sons.

His three-year-old son, Leo, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on 19th December 2025, crossed the finish line with them.

Explaining why he decided to take on the challenge, he said:

“Just before Christmas our little boy Leo was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

"It’s really knocked us as a family and we now have a new normal.

"The only way I can describe it is trying to carry a glass of water and keep it from spilling, even when you’re asleep.

That’s why I wanted to do something positive and raise money to help.”

The fundraiser was organised to support Breakthrough T1D, which works to fund research and provide support for people affected by Type 1 diabetes.

The coach regularly takes part in fundraising activities, often focused on supporting children.

In December, he completed a 20-kilometre run, raising £700 to provide personalised winter coats for his football team.
