New home approved next to reservoir in Silsden despite council objections

Earlier this year planning officers had refused plans for a two storey property on the same site.

A house can be built on land next to a rural reservoir – despite the objections of a town council.

Bradford Council has approved a planning application for a detached bungalow and garage on land next to Silsden Reservoir.

The application, by Fiona Bradley, had been submitted earlier this Summer and attracted a number of objections.

Among the objectors were Silsden Town Council, who described the plans as “overdevelopment in green belt” and adding “it could be the thin edge of the wedge to further development on this site.”

There were three other objectors, criticising the potential loss of Green belt land, and arguing that housing was not needed.

Earlier this year planning officers had refused plans for a two storey property on the same site.

Referring to the new bungalow application, officers said:

“The proposed dwelling is modest in scale and of a design, detailing and materials that would result in a bungalow and garage of suitable appearance given other buildings and massing of the nearby reservoir dam wall itself.”
