Sir Julian Smith MP is urging constituents and the general public to refrain from swimming in Swinsty Reservoir due to health and safety risks.
This appeal comes in anticipation of a planned mass trespass/swim at the reservoir on Sunday, 25th May.
Yorkshire Water has highlighted several significant dangers associated with swimming in reservoirs, including cold water shock, strong currents, and submerged machinery - hazards which pose a serious threat even to experienced swimmers.
Commenting, Julian said,
"The safety of our community and visitors is vital.
"Swimming in Swinsty Reservoir is not permitted due to the inherent dangers and I urge everyone to avoid participating in the planned swim.”
Yorkshire Water Rangers will be present at Swinsty Reservoir on the day of the planned swim to observe and report, but they will not be approaching or challenging individuals.
The Rangers are not trained lifeguards, and their primary role is to ensure safety through observation.
