Several local attractions have announced closures or partial closures today (Thursday) after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds across North Yorkshire.

The warning, which is in place from 5am until 8pm, highlights the potential for strong winds accompanied by heavy rain, with some disruption to travel and outdoor activities possible.

Max gusts could reach 41mph from the south and southwest, according to Met Office.

And in response, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal have confirmed that the Abbey, Water Garden and visitor centre will all be closed for the day.

It cited safety concerns due to the high winds expected throughout the day.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr has also introduced safety measures.

Garden staff say that several areas will be closed due to the forecast, including The Woodland, Alpine House and the play areas.

The rest of the garden remains open, but visitors are being advised to take care.

Elsewhere, Thorp Perrow Arboretum has confirmed it will be closed today due to the weather conditions.

The Met Office says the yellow warning means strong winds could lead to some transport disruption and potential damage to trees or structures in exposed areas.
