Children to travel free on buses across North Yorkshire throughout August

Families in Skipton and across North Yorkshire can enjoy cheaper days out this summer as children are set to travel free on most local bus services throughout August.

The initiative forms part of the Government's Great British Summer Savings scheme, which allows children under the age of 16 to travel free on the majority of local bus services in England during the school holidays.

The offer includes many routes serving the Yorkshire Dales, making it easier for families to explore the region without the cost of children's bus fares.

Among the services included are the popular weekend DalesBus routes, including the DalesBus 59 between Skipton and Harrogate on Saturdays, the DalesBus 822 linking Grassington with Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abbey and Ripon on Sundays, and the DalesBus 875 and 876 between Grassington and Hawes on Sundays.

The Sunday Cravenlink service between Skipton and Malham is also included in the scheme.

Older teenagers can also continue to benefit from discounted travel, with under-19s able to travel for £1 per single journey on buses across York and North Yorkshire as part of an ongoing initiative introduced by the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire.

"The summer holidays are when families and friends can come together and create lasting memories.

"It's brilliant that this Yorkshire Day and every day over the summer, families can enjoy free bus travel for children, and for teens our £1 under-19s bus fare means they can travel for less too."

The free travel offer is available throughout August on participating local bus services, helping families make the most of the summer holidays while exploring destinations across North Yorkshire and beyond.
