Skipton residents urged to have their say on long-term transport plans

Residents, businesses and community groups across Skipton and Ripon are being encouraged to have their say on plans which could shape transport investment across York and North Yorkshire for the next 25 years.

Julian Smith MP is urging people to take part in a public consultation on the Mayor’s Local Transport Plan, which sets out proposed transport priorities through to 2050.

The draft plan covers a range of issues including road maintenance and pothole repairs, bus and rail services, active travel, road safety, accessibility and rural connectivity.

It also looks at improving connections between communities and major towns and cities across the North, as well as transport access to jobs, healthcare, education and local services.

The consultation is particularly seeking views on the challenges faced by people living in rural communities.

Julian Smith said transport is one of the issues residents raise with him most often, including concerns about potholes, bus services, road safety, access to appointments and rail connections.

He said:

“This consultation is an important opportunity for people across Skipton and Ripon to have their say on the long-term future of transport in our part of North Yorkshire.

“The decisions taken now could influence investment and transport priorities for decades to come, so I would encourage residents, businesses, community groups and local organisations to take a few minutes to complete the survey.

“Our area has unique challenges, particularly for people living in rural communities, and it is vital that their concerns are taken into account.”

The consultation is open until 4 November, with residents able to share their views through an online survey.
