Skipton pub wins Best High Street Pub in local awards

Woolly Sheep Inn in Skipton was named Best High Street Pub.

Pubs and hospitality workers across Skipton and the surrounding area have been recognised in Julian Smith MP’s Local Pub Awards 2026.

Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP launched the awards over the summer, inviting constituents to nominate and vote for their favourite local pubs and pub staff.

The awards aimed to highlight the role pubs play in communities across the Skipton and Ripon constituency, with nominations made across four categories: Best Pub, Best High Street Pub, Best Rural Pub and Staff Member of the Year.

This year’s winners are:

Best Pub: The Plough, Wigglesworth
Best High Street Pub: The Woolly Sheep Inn, Skipton and The Castle Inn, Skipton – joint winners
Best Rural Pub: The Plough, Wigglesworth
Staff Member of the Year: Tracy of the Helwith Bridge Inn, Horton in Ribblesdale, and Roz & Calvin of The Castle Inn, Skipton – joint winners

Julian Smith said the response to the awards showed how highly local people value their pubs and the people who work in them.

He said:

“Pubs are far more than places to enjoy food and drink.

"They are employers, community hubs, meeting places and an important part of local life.

“Across Skipton and Ripon, pubs play a vital role in bringing people together and supporting our local economy.”

He also congratulated the winners and thanked all of the pubs and staff members who were nominated.

He added:

“The high standard of nominations received shows the strength of our local hospitality sector and the important contribution it makes to communities across our constituency,”

Certificates of recognition have been sent to all of the category winners, with Julian Smith also set to visit The Plough in Wigglesworth to present the awards in person.
