Petition launched calling for Skipton-Settle bus service to be restored

580 Bus Service for Skipton and Settle called to return.

A petition calling for the return of an hourly bus service between Skipton and Settle has been launched following changes to the 580 timetable.

The 580 service, which connects Skipton with Settle via Gargrave, Hellifield and Long Preston, was reduced from an hourly to a two-hourly service outside peak times from April this year.

The change resulted in the loss of three return journeys.

Campaigners are now calling for the previous frequency to be restored, arguing that the service is an important transport link for communities along the route.

A North Yorkshire Council e-petition calls specifically for the 580 to return to an hourly timetable.

The campaign has highlighted concerns about the impact of reduced services on residents who rely on buses to travel between Skipton, Settle and surrounding villages, including for shopping, appointments, work and other essential journeys.

The 580 is currently operated by Lonsdale Buses, with the route running between Skipton and Settle.

The petition is now calling on North Yorkshire Council to reconsider the reduction and restore the hourly timetable.
