Nursing home raises money for hospice in honour of former colleague

The team at Currergate Nursing Home has raised £1,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice following a 23-mile sponsored walk from Silsden to Leeds.

The fundraising challenge took place in June, with staff taking on the lengthy walk to support both Sue Ryder Manorlands and the Residents’ Fund at Currergate.

The team chose Manorlands because of its personal connection to one of their former colleagues, Pat, who received care from the hospice towards the end of her life.

Pat had been part of the company for 30 years, meaning many members of the Currergate team had known and worked alongside her for a significant part of their careers.

Explaining the reason behind the fundraiser, the team said:

“The hospice holds a very special place in the hearts of many of our team.

"Our colleague and friend, Pat, received care from Manorlands towards the end of her life.

"Pat had been part of our company for 30 years, so many of us had known and worked alongside her for a very long time.

"Completing the 23-mile walk from Silsden to Leeds was a challenge, but knowing we were doing it for such a worthwhile cause made every step worthwhile.

"We are incredibly proud to have raised £1,000 and hope our donation will help Manorlands continue the wonderful work they do for patients and their families.”

Currergate Nursing Home is based on Skipton Road in Steeton and is part of the Czajka Care Group.

The home provides nursing and residential care for older people, including support for people living with dementia, and has capacity for up to 47 residents.

The Currergate team thanked everyone who took part in the challenge and donated to the fundraiser, saying their support would help make a difference to local people and families.
