Teachers and educators across Skipton and Ripon are being encouraged to apply for a fully-funded programme offering the chance to learn more about how Parliament works.
Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is urging local teachers, headteachers and other educators to apply for UK Parliament’s Teacher Ambassador Programme, which takes place from 25th to 27th January 2027.
The three-day residential programme is designed to give teachers a deeper understanding of Parliament and democracy, with the aim of helping them bring the subjects to life in classrooms and local communities.
Successful applicants will have their travel, accommodation and meals fully covered.
During the programme, participants will visit the Palace of Westminster, take part in question and answer sessions with senior parliamentary figures, hear from staff working across Parliament and work alongside other educators on teaching resources and ideas.
The programme is open to teachers and educators at all stages of their careers, including those working in primary, secondary and post-16 education, and across all subject areas.
Sir Julian Smith said:
“This is a great opportunity for teachers across Skipton and Ripon to see how Parliament works and pick up new ideas to take back to their classrooms.
“The programme is fully funded and gives teachers the chance to learn from people working at the heart of Parliament, as well as meet and share experiences with educators from across the country.
“I would encourage any local teachers who are interested to apply.
"Helping young people understand democracy and how they can have their voices heard is incredibly important, and this programme can play a valuable role in doing that.”
The programme has received positive feedback from previous participants, with all teachers on the most recent programme rating the course positively and saying it had been helpful for their teaching.
Applications close on Sunday 1st November 2026.
