Eddie 'The Eagle' to attend opening of new vet practice in Skipton

Olympic ski jumping legend Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards is heading to Skipton to officially open the town's newest veterinary practice.

The former Olympian will be the special guest at an open day for Dalehead Veterinary Group's new practice at Acorn Business Park on Saturday 3rd October.

The event will run from 10am until 2pm, giving local pet owners the chance to look around the new facilities and meet the team.

Eddie is expected to arrive at around 10.30am in a vintage Dalehead van before taking part in the day's activities.

He will also turn his hand to judging a fun dog show, which is expected to get underway at around 11.45am.

Categories will include waggiest tail, best biscuit catch, best trick and the dog 'least like its owner'.

There will also be an Eddie the Eagle-inspired 'flying without skis' jump, with bonus points promised for artistic flair, as well as a prize for the dog Eddie would most like to take home.

The new Skipton practice began welcoming patients earlier this month and is based at Unit 2, Acorn Business Park, off Keighley Road.

It is the latest expansion for independent Dalehead Veterinary Group, which already operates practices in Settle and Bentham.

The group can trace its roots back to Settle in 1926, meaning the arrival of its new Skipton practice comes as Dalehead celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Dalehead said its new purpose-designed Skipton surgery will provide a full range of veterinary services for companion animals.

The open day takes place from 10am until 2pm on Saturday 3rd October and families are encouraged to bring their dogs along if they would like to enter the fun dog show.
