The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale held its 7th Annual Recycle Event in Ilkley on Saturday 26 September.

Despite the COVID restrictions, the event in the main car park was given the go ahead by Bradford Council on the understanding that all distancing rules were strictly observed.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale told Rombalds Radio:

“The collection of unwanted items turned out to be a record in virtually every category.  Perhaps this was because members of the public were tired of looking at unused items throughout the initial lockdown and since.

“To give a flavour of what was collected, there were: approximately 200 bicycles, 4 van loads of tools, 20 or so mobility aids and wheelchairs, 20 or so sewing machines, over 100 school backpacks and over 200 spectacles.

“The Rotary Club and its associated charities on the day, the Margaret Carey Foundation, Ilkley Tools for Africa and Mary’s Meals, would like to thank all those people who took the trouble to come down into Ilkley to donate all these items.

“It was a fantastic result which will benefit many people both in the UK and third world countries.  It is unlikely that anything will go to waste, when it’s a Rotary Event there are no overhead or administration charges.”
